Shirley May Wicoff, 86, of Granite City, passed away at New Athens Home for the Aged at 9:55 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2015.
She was born Sept. 30, 1928, in Granite City, a daughter of the late Clarence and Ora (Lewis) Wicoff. Shirley retired from Granite City Steel after 25 years of dedicated clerical service as a secretary. She had a special love of the holidays and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends. She is survived by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Glenn and Estelle Sauerwein Sr. of Walsh; four nieces and nephews and their spouses, Rodney Sauerwein of New Athens, Debra and Rick Volmer of New Athens, Tamela and Charles Hubert of Collinsville and Glenn and Lynn Sauerwein Jr. of Walsh; many great-nieces and great-nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to her beloved parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Violet Sauerwein and Ruth Ella Wicoff.
In celebration of her life, a graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2015, at the Wheeler Cemetery in Wheeler, Ill. The Rev. Clint Wisdom will officiate. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice; www.irwinchapel.com.
