Stanley E. Carpenter, 74, of Granite City, passed away on Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at his home with his family by his side.
He was born on March 5, 1940, in Lansing, Mich., a son to the late William and Margaret (Balcam) Carpenter.
Stanley was a steelworker at American Steel for more than 39 years, retiring in 2003. In his free time, Stanley enjoyed playing bingo and visiting the Alton Belle Casino and the Casino Queen. He will be remembered for his kind heart and the many special times he shared with his family and friends.
He is survived by and will be missed by his wife, Essie (Bause) Carpenter, whom he married on Dec. 30, 1958; his children, Ricky and (Barbara) Carpenter of Granite City, Tina and (Jon) Patterson of Granite City, and Johnny and (Treva) Carpenter of Granite City; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack, Johnny, and Larry; and sisters, Pat and Edna.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret, Mary, and June; and brother, William.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of his life, services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, at the funeral home with Pastor Lisa Guilliams officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery on Nameoki Road in Granite City. Memorials are suggested to the family.
