Sylvia A. “Sis” Sewell, 62, of Pocahontas, died at 3:25 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at home.
She was born on Feb. 2, 1952, in Highland,the daughter of the Sylvester C. and Lillian A. (Haislar) Marquardt.
Sylvia married Eugene Stephen Sewell Sr. on Nov. 15, 1968 in East St. Louis. He preceded her in death on March 20, 1995.
Sylvia was born in Highland and grew up in Grantfork. She attended Highland High School. She worked for Chastain’s Nursing Home for more than 10 years. She was a stay-at-home mom for several years. Sylvia worked for Clean The Uniform Company in Highland for more than 25 years. She enjoyed bingo, watching “Days of Our Lives,” bonfires and a family get-together. She was very active on Facebook, loved spending time with her grandchildren, reading, and sitting outside.
She is survived by three sons, John L. Sewell of Pocahontas, Brian K. Sewell of Greenville and Erik J. Sewell of Ina; daughter, Tina M. Sewell of Pocahontas; four grandchildren, Aylssa N. Sewell, Joseph D. Sewell, Kristopher K. Sewell, and Emily B. Sewell, all of Greenville; four brothers, Wilifred A. “Willie” Marquardt of Grantfork, Walter C. and Barbara Marquardt of Belleville, Wallace K. “Wally” Marquardt of Grantfork, and William A. “Bill” Marquardt of Grantfork; and four sisters, Suzanne M. Mosby Hamm of Pocahontas, Sandra B. and Steven Kaufman of Highland, Sharon M. Starko of Highland, and Shelia T. and Tony Winter of Highland.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Eugene S. “Gene” Sewell Jr.; grandson, Jessica Renee Sewell; three brothers, Warren S. Marquardt, Wayne J. Marquardt, and Winston L. “Stoney” Marquart; and one brother-in-law, Alexander “Al” Starko.
Services are scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.
