Sylvia R. Seemiller, 89, of Granite City, passed away at 8:31 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
She was born Sept. 15, 1926, in St. Louis, a daughter of the late William “Ray” and Arizona (Stephens) Hollis. She married Hans B. Seemiller on April 8, 1960, in St. Louis and he survives. She was a dedicated and faithful member of GCFirst Assembly of God Church in Granite City.
Sylvia will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends. In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by four children and spouses, Harold Ray and Linda Smallie of Pontoon Beach, Sharon and Ronald Gregory of Mitchell, Lynette and Lloyd “Ray” Vaughn of Mitchell and Jeffrey and Cheryl Seemiller of Arlington Heights; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Glen and Lora Hollis of Granite City, Paul and Diane Hollis of Granite City and David Hollis of Granite City; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Norma Roney of St. Charles, Naomi and Gene Thomas of Pontoon Beach and Joy and Larry Fencel of Cedar Ridge, Colo.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Roberson; and a grandson, Jeremy O’Gara.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Visitation will continue at Irwin Chapel from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at noon on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016, with the Rev. Rich Smallie officiating.
