Taka “Linda” (Okamoto) Howarth, 86, of Wood River, passed away at 3:05 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015, at her home with her family by her side.
She was born March 12, 1929, in Japan, the daughter of Bangiro and Tei (Ishki) Okamoto.
She married Daniel E. Howarth on Dec. 22, 1952, in Japan at the American Embassy. He survives.
Linda had a house-cleaning business and was an assistant in a dental office. She also decorated many wedding cakes for weddings in the area. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, needlework, helping others and most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children and their spouses, David (Anna) Howarth of Placitas, N.M., Diana (David Palmer) Howarth of St. Charles, Mo., Timothy (Patty) Howarth of Bunker Hill and Terence Howarth of Wood River; and four grandchildren, Tara Howarth, Kelly Snider, Dana Howarth and Michael Baranowski.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial visitation will be 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015, at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens Chapel in Bethalto with Father James Flach officiating.
Memorials may be made to Holy Angels Catholic Church, BJC Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
