The Rev. Donald E. Ploesser, 79, of Maryville, went to be with the Lord at 2:10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, while preaching God’s word on the brevity of life at St. Ferdinand Park in Florissant, Mo.
He was born Oct. 25, 1935, in St. Louis, a son of the late Henry and Cora (Wombold) Ploesser. He married Vivian (Slater) Ploesser on May 10, 1955, in Beulah Place in Jennings, Mo. He was called to the ministry in 1966 and faithfully served the Lord in many ways serving throughout the Midwest and in India. He was currently serving as an associate pastor of Central Baptist Church in Pontoon Beach, where he was serving over the Senior Ministry. He retired as the Midwest Area Director in 2009 from the International Partnership Ministries. He had also retired as Senior Pastor in 2001 from the First Baptist Church of Troy. Pastor had attended the Tennessee Temple Bible School in Chattanooga, Tenn., graduating in May 1970 and served as minister with his first of many churches. He had worked as a printer before his calling and enjoyed his days of fishing. The United States veteran proudly served his country with the Air Force from 1954 until 1957. He loved people and had a sense of humor that will live forever. He had also enjoyed his days of being a member of the Illinois Territory Rangers of 1812. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife of 60 years, his is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald W. and Teresa Ploesser of Columbus, Ohio; four grandsons, Nathan Ploesser of Columbus, Ohio, Eric Ploesser of St. Petersburg, Fla., Phillip and Ashley Ploesser of Columbus, Ohio, and Ryan Ploesser of St. Louis; three great-grandchildren, Landon, Kenzie and Kali Ploesser; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Adolf Fedior of St. Louis; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ron and Ingrid Slater of St. Louis, sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Debbie and Robin Morgan-Slater of Belleville and Betty Slater of Florissant, Mo.; many nieces and nephews; other extended family; church family and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth J. Ploesser; a brother, Kenneth Ploesser; and two sisters, Sally Brosch and JoAnn Woerner.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015, at Central Baptist Church, 3940 State Route 111 in Pontoon Beach, where visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, with the Revs. Bill Hendricks and Wayne Musatics officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church in Pontoon Beach.
