Thelma Ruth Morelan, 89, of Granite City, passed away at 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
She was born Dec. 29, 1926, in Granite City, the daughter of the late Fred and Evelyn (McDonald) Stark. She married Roy N. Morelan on Oct. 3, 1953, and he passed away on June 14, 2004. Thelma was a dedicated and faithful member of The First Assembly of God Church in Granite City, where she was active with many functions throughout the years. The “social butterfly” was always on the go, loved talking and helping others and never met a stranger. She enjoyed the past years of being a foster grandparent through Senior Services. She had a special love for children and enjoyed her days of camping with family. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her children, grandchildren and other family and many friends.
She is survived by three daughters, Donna Jean (Randy) Atchley of Granite City, Debra Lynn (Johnny Rood) Morelan of Alton and Diana Faye (Steve) Burnett of Granite City; two sons, Dennis Wayne Morelan of Granite City and Arnet Edwin Morelan of St. Jacob; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Val (Marlene) Stark of Granite City and Maynard Stark of Granite City; a sister-in-law, Darlana Morelan of Wentzville, Mo.; many nieces and nephews; other extended family, church family and friends. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Juanita Faye Stark.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City.
Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, at First Assembly of God Church, 2317 Madison Ave. in Granite City, with the Rev. Rich Smallie officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
