Theresa M. Gundlach, 86, of Granite City, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014, at her home.
She was born Feb. 17, 1928, in Granite City, a daughter of the late Oliver and Mazie (Homyer) Bruch (Accola). She married Robert P. Gundlach on Sept. 1, 1948, in Granite City and he passed away on Feb. 2, 1995. She was a dedicated and faithful homemaker and had worked as a registered nurse for several years earlier in life. Her care and compassion for others continued through the years as a loving caregiver to many people and their families. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and enjoyed her days of reading and attending yard sales. She was an avid history enthusiast and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Terri and Gene Templeman of Alhambra, Cathy and Stan Rudy of Granite City and Barbara and Alan Rude of Las Cruces, N.M.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert and Pam Gundlach of Maplewood, Mo., Daniel Gundlach of Granite City and Christopher and Jennifer Gundlach of Creve Coeur, Mo.; six grandchildren, Scott Phillips, Lisa Green, Jennifer Gibson, Mike Rudy, Chris Gundlach and John Gundlach; 10 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Alyssa, Anthony, Mary Beth, Lily, Josie, Maggie, Abby, Nathan and Rachel; two sisters, Louise Rees of Granite City and Sr. Judine Bruch of Dubuque, Iowa; one brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Thelma Bruch of Granite City; many nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Gale.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City with Father Manuel Cuizon as celebrant.
