Thomas Earl Griesbaum, 97, of Alton, died at 4:55 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015, at the Rosewood Care Nursing Home in Alton.
He was born in Alton on Nov. 3, 1917, the son of the late Joseph F. and Bessie (Culp) Griesbaum.
Thomas married Margie O’Donnell on Sept. 25, 1944. She preceded him in death in July of 1997.
Thomas served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps in England during WWII. He was a high school math teacher for more than 25 years at Civic Memorial High School in Bethalto.
He is survived by a daughter; Rebecca “Becky” and her spouse, Donald Neunaber of Lilburn, Ga.; one granddaughter, Jill Elizabeth Neunaber; one grandson, David Neunaber; a brother, Maurice Griesbaum of Alton; a sister-in-law, Jeanne Griesbaum of Bethalto; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Velma Seago and Betty Grove; four brothers, Billy Griesbaum, Cecil Griesbaum, Lester Griesbaum and George Griesbaum.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, with Chaplain Randy Butler officiating.
Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army in Alton.
