Thomas Edward “Ed” Dodd, 82, of Granite City, passed away Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014.
He was born Sept. 24, 1932, in Dover, Tenn., a son of the late Ernest Grady and Annie Marie (Wallace) Dodd.
He retired from Granite City Steel after many years of dedicated service. The United States Army veteran proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict as a military policeman. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners. He enjoyed his days of playing pool, building and racing midget cars and was a breeder of show-quality Harlequin great Danes. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
He is survived by two daughters, Terri Dodd of Denver, Colo., and Lori Dodd of Plano, Texas; a granddaughter, Meghann Dodd of Plano, Texas; a grandson, Brendan Dodd of St. Louis; a sister, Faye Mercer of Highland, Ill.; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Steven E. Dodd; and a sister, Jean Stopkotte.
In celebration of his life, a memorial visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. The Rev. Charles West will officiate and military rites will be accorded. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
