Thomas William Roberts, 80, of Granite City, passed away at 1:49 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, at Gateway Regional Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 6, 1935, in Granite City, the son to Robert S. and Edna (nee: Porter) Baker Roberts Smick.
Thomas and Shirley Matthews married Dec. 26, 1956, in Granite City.
Thomas served in the U.S. Marines and then retired from the steel industry. He attended both Word of Life Tabernacle, where he served as an usher; and also attended the United Methodist Church, both in Granite City. He loved fishing, puzzles, carpentry, reading the Bible, Bible studies and family and enjoyed attending several churches and their events.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley (nee: Matthew) Roberts of Granite City; son, Lee Thomas Roberts of Granite City; granddaughter, Amanda Gibson; and two great-grandsons, Derrick and Daren.
Besides both parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Charles “Toby,” Bobby and Jim Roberts.
