Truman F. Harvill, 79, of Bethalto, passed away at 11:21 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, at The Carpenter House in Baton Rouge, La., with his children by his side.
He was born on March 7, 1935, in Wood River, the son of William P. and Ella R. (Sanders) Harvill.
He married Viola D. (Jatcko) Harvill on Feb. 20, 1960, in Wood River. She passed away on Dec. 15, 2004.
Truman served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a furnace operator at Laclede Steel for 37 years, retiring in 1993. He was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto.
He is survived and loved by a daughter, Dee Harvill of Baton Rouge, La.; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Shannon Harvill of Novi, Mich.; four grandchildren, Aidan, Alana, Cailin and Rian; his sister and brother-in-law, Arleen and Walter Hesterberg of Bethalto; numerous nieces and nephews, and his very special friend, Jenny Bassler of Alton.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto with Pastor Mark Hofferber officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church Fund, 625 Church Drive, Bethalto, IL 62010.
