Van Alen Long, 73, of Rosewood Heights, passed away at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2016, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Born Aug. 27, 1942, in Festus, Mo., he was a son of Curtis Andrew and Mary Leatha (Walton) Long.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he was self-employed as a global sales representative for OEM Manufacturers for many years. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus in Alton and Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River. He also loved to travel the world and play poker for fun.
He married Eileen Loraine Parrott, a teacher at St. Kevin’s School, April 13, 1964. They shared nearly 52 years of marriage before his passing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, William Alen Long of Rosewood Heights; two daughters, Christine Gail Long of Chicago and Kimberly Anne Long of Los Angeles; and his siblings, Dr. Curtis Long of Butler, Mo., Lowell Long of Marlow, Okla., and Carol Sturdevant of Humboldt, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Anthony Gray.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2016, at Paynic Home for Funerals, 618 E. Airline Drive, East Alton. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2016, at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Fr. James Flach as Celebrant.
