Van Alen Long, 73, of Rosewood Heights, passed away at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2016, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Aug. 27, 1942, in Festus, Mo., a son of Curtis Andrew and Mary Leatha (Walton) Long.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he was self-employed as a global sales representative for OEM Manufacturers for many years. Van was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus in Alton, and Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River. He was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed traveling the world and playing poker for fun.
He married Eileen (Parrott) Long, a teacher at St. Kevin’s School, whom he shared over 50 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, William Alen Long of Rosewood Heights, Christine G. Long of Chicago and Kimberly A. Long of Los Angeles, Calif. His siblings and in-laws are Dr. Curtis and Ann Long of Butler, Mo., the late Mary Anthony Gray, Lowell Long of Marlow, Okla., Carol and the late Butch Sturdevant of Humboldt, Texas, and Diana and Tony Roscich of Palos Heights, Ill.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2016, at Paynic Home for Funerals, 618 E. Airline Drive, East Alton. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2016, at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Fr. James Flach as Celebrant.
