Veronica Joan Nizinski, 91, of Madison, passed away at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, at Liberty Village in Maryville.
She was born Feb. 21, 1923, in North Little Rock, Ark., a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Zawislak) Kromraj.
She married Stanley Nizinski on July 29, 1950, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Madison and he passed away on July 13, 1956. Veronica was a dedicated and loving homemaker and also had worked in a beauty shop for many years. She was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Madison, where she was active with the funeral luncheon committee and the quilter’s guild. She enjoyed her days of cooking and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen Pusczek of Granite City; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Pusczek of St. Louis and Lauren Pusczek of St. Louis; one brother and sister-in-law, Matt and Dorothy Nizinski of Granite City; many nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Gerald Stanley Nizinski; four sisters and a brother, Agnes, Stanley, Elizabeth, Cecelia and Catherine.
In celebration of her life, a visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with Father Manuel Cuizon as celebrant. Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials may be made to St. Mary Church and may be accepted at the funeral home, www.irwinchapel.com.
