Viola May Baughman, 92, of East Alton, passed away at 8:05 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2016, at Eden Village Care Center in Glen Carbon.
She was born May 14, 1923, in Carrollton, the daughter of the late Ignatius and Anna (Behen) Sethaler.
On Aug. 12, 1944, she and Lawrence W. “Wayne” Baughman were married in Shreveport, La. He preceded her in death on March 9, 2010.
Mrs. Baughman had worked for Olin, Venture and Famous Barr throughout her life. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella.
Survivors include two daughters, Charlene (Roger) Joyce of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Jan (Mark) Strickland of Rosewood Heights; daughter-in-law, Janice Baughman of Wood River; four grandchildren, Jason (Chelsea) Baughman, Kip Joyce, Chad (Jackie) Joyce and Lauren Strickland; four great-grandchildren, Hunter, Fynn, Harper and Trent; and a brother, Henry Sethaler of Caseyville.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard L. Baughman; three sisters, Helen Tuey, Rosemary Hansen and Martha Hardwick; and five brothers, Norbert, Leo, Louis, Charles and Bernard Sethaler.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2016, at Paynic Home for Funerals. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Fr. James Flach as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens.
