Virgil Jerome Keeton Sr., 95, of Mitchell, formerly of Staunton, passed away Saturday, March 26, at his home.
He was born June 4, 1920, in Gorham, Ill., to Chester A. Arthur and Cora (nee Asbury) Keeton.
Virgil served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired after working as a custodian at Coolidge Middle School in Granite City.
He is survived by two daughters, Rita Barnett of Mitchell and Carol (Robert Ostyn) Dworsack of Mount Olive; three sons, David (Marel) Keeton of Grover, Mo., Virgil (Pamala) Keeton Jr. of Fordland, Mo., and Terry (Cindi) Keeton of Litchfield, Ill.; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Chester A. Arthur and Cora (nee Asbury) Keeton, he was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta (nee Dann) Keeton, daughter, five brothers and six sisters.
The family will have a memorial service at 2 p.m. June 4 at Walton Park’s Pavilion No. 3 in Mount Olive.
