Virginia I. Head, 82, of Granite City, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
She was born on Sept. 10, 1932, in Summersville, Mo., a daughter to the late Benjamin Allen and Mary Dicey (Coffey) Bandy. Virginia was a lifelong homemaker and mom. She gave her heart to Christ at the age of 10 and was a member of First Baptist Church in Granite City for more than 60 years. Virginia gave of her time by visiting members of the church who were shut in and had a fondness for pink flowers. She will be remembered for the love of her family and the many special times they shared together.
She is survived by and will be missed by her daughters, Ruth Ann and (Wayne D.) Taylor of Florissant, Mo., and Sandra J. and (James F.) Bradfield of Belleville; grandchildren, Sarah and (Jeff) Steiner, William and (Brittany) Douglas, and Michelle and (Jason) Brown; great-grandchildren, Payton Steiner, Jackson Steiner, Samantha Brown, Alexis Brown, Tyler Brown and Jeremiah Brown; brother, Claude and (Martha) Bandy; sister-in-law, Betty Bandy; and special friend and neighbor, Pauline Demery.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Hershel R. Head, who she married on Oct. 7, 1950; her grandson, Jeremy Word; and her brothers, Virgil Bandy and Ray Bandy.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of her life, services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2015, at the funeral home with Pastor Charles West officiating. Graveside services will follow at 4 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2015, at Summersville City Cemetery in Summersville, Mo.
