W. Faye Mercer, 81, of Granite City, passed away at 12:40 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Rosewood Care Center in Edwardsville.
She was born April 2, 1933, in Sullivan, Mo., a daughter of the late Carl and Vineta (Bell) Mercer. Faye retired in 2013 from AARP of Granite City and had also worked for General Steel Industries, with many years of dedicated service as a secretary. She loved her church and was a dedicated and faithful member of Granite City First Assembly of God Church. She loved her little pink car and her collection of Precious Moments and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Faye loved shopping and her many Branson vacations and enjoyed her many bus trips with the park district. Family get-togethers and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were precious times to her and she will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Candy Mercer of Granite City and Jerry and Pam Mercer of Springfield, Mo.; six grandchildren and spouses, Kim and Bill Begis of Waterloo, Jayme and Stan Marmuziewicz of Granite City, Shawna and Jeff Thomas of Troy, Matt Mercer and fiancé, Jessie Davis, of Granite City, Heather and Jeff Bacon of Godfrey and Krysti Mercer of Edwardsville; 10 great-grandchildren, Bailey, Nicholas and Natalie Faye Marmuziewicz, Keagan and Noah Mouradian, Jakob, Tyler and Kyle Thomas, Ava and Carter Bacon; one sister, Vineta Smallie of Granite City; one brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Etta Rae Mercer of Edwardsville; two sisters-in-law, Esther Mercer of Granite City and Shirley Mercer of Girard; many nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Maynard Mercer, Watson Mercer and Randol Mercer; four sisters, Virginia Stumbaugh, Berniece Mercer, Ruth Kaminski and June Mercer; and two brothers-in-law, Bill Smallie and Tom Kaminski.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2015, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2015, at Irwin Chapel, the Rev. Rich Smallie and the Rev. Byron Wampler officiating.
