Walter Scott Marrs Jr., 85, of Edwardsville, formerly of Granite City, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016, at his daughter’s home in Edwardsville. He was born Dec. 1, 1930, in Louisiana, a son of the late Walter Scott Marrs Sr. and Lela Francis (Byerley) Marrs.
On Dec. 10, 1949, Walter married Nancy Warren, the love of his life, in Gladewater, Texas, and Nancy passed away Aug. 26, 1998. Walter was a member of Gracepoint Church in Granite City. He had retired from First National Bank in Albuquerque, N.M., as vice president in 1977. Walter then went to work for Commercial Telephone Systems as a telephone technician, retiring again in 1995. He enjoyed going to church, spending time with his family and going fishing. Walter loved his family and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents and loving wife, Walter was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Padgett.
He is survived by his loving children, Shirley (Mike) Mullins of Albuquerque, N.M., Wanell (John) Jones of Edwardsville, Sue (John) Perry of Granite City, Deborah (Larry) Johnston of Terre Haute, Ind., Judy (Delano) Scott of Pocahontas, Tom (Rebecca) Marrs of Granite City, and Patricia (Darin) Manning of Fenton, Mo.; dear sister, Mary Ellen (Bernal) Spier of Longview, Texas; proud grandfather to 21 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren; and extended family and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Gracepoint Church, 2450 Pontoon Road, Granite City.
In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2016, at Gracepoint Church with Pastor Mike Mullins and Pastor Steve Benthal officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights.
Memorial donations may be given to Gracepoint Church and donations may be given at the church.
