Wanda Hendrix, 56, of Granite City died Monday, July 28, 2014, at her home with her family by her side.
Wanda was born on Sept. 7, 1957, in Granite City, a daughter to the late Gerald and Pauline (Buckingham) Slater. She was a longtime phlebotomist for St. Anthony’s Way. She graduated from Sanford Brown College earning her registered medical assistant license. She was a member of the New Attitudes Lady Alton Chapter and in her free time she enjoyed tending her garden, motorcycling with her husband, Mike, and spending time with her family and friends. Wanda will be remembered for her kind heart and the many special times she shared with her family.
She is survived by and will be missed by her husband; Mike Hendrix, who she married June 20, 1992; daughters, Alissa and (Mike) Lipchik of Ozark, Mo., Crystal and (Rick) Leckner of O’Fallon, Ill.; sisters, Phyllis and (Steve) Million of Granite City, Donna and (Leland) Crites of Granite City, Linda and (George) Preuss of Spring Hill, Kan.; brothers, Gary and (Julie) Slater of St. Joe, Ill., Jerry and (Sonya) Slater of Olathe, Kan.; sisters-in-law, Lisa and (Jeff) Henry of Granite City, Kathy and (Bob) Knezevick of Edinburgh, Ill.; brother-in-law, Chris Hendrix of Edinburgh, Ill.; mother-in-law, Lela Hendrix of Granite City; grandchildren, Hannah Lipchik, Sophie Lipchik, Abby Lipchik and Phoebe Lipchik; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of her life services will be held on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at City Temple, 4751 Maryville Road in Granite City with Pastor Rich Cope officiating. Burial will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights. Memorials are suggested to the Wanda Hendrix Benefit Fund.
