Wayne A. “Wayno” Staggs, 64, of Roxana and formerly of Granite City, passed away at 5:27 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2016, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Nov. 12, 1951, in Catron, Mo., a son of the late Russell and Hazel (Haddock) Staggs. He married Rosie M. (Stout) Staggs on Oct. 28, 1972, in Granite City and she survives. Wayne worked at U.S. Steel with 28 years of dedicated service as a millwright. He was a member of the Granite City Masonic Lodge No. 877. He loved his days working in his garage on his truck and motorcycle. Wayne enjoyed reading westerns and cherished spending time with his grandchildren and family.
In addition to his beloved wife of 44 years, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Peggy Wilson of Granite City and Mindy and Andrew Lugge of Glen Carbon; two grandchildren, Logan Wilson and Jacob Lugge; a grandson on the way, Christopher Lugge; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Russell “J.T.” Staggs of Granite City, Charles and Ruth Staggs of New York and Johnny Staggs of Granite City; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Wanda and Denny Bucklew of Troy, Sharon Risinger of Granite City and Patti and Jim Gibson of Tennessee; many nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandbaby, Marie; a brother, Harry “Glen” Staggs and a sister, Geneva “Allene” Pence.
In celebration of his life, visitation and a Masonic Service were Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Funeral services were Friday, April 1, 2016, at the funeral home.
