Willard E. “Louie” Passig
Willard E. “Louie” Passig, 91, of Granite City, died at 9:23 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at Heritage Manor in Staunton.
He was born Aug. 19, 1923, in Granite City, a son of the late Henry and Hannah (Standard) Passig.
He married Yvonne P. “Snooks” (Hughes) Passig on Aug. 30, 1943 in Venice and she survives.
Louie retired in 1992 from Siebold’s Bakery in Granite City with 28 years of service as a driver. He had also worked at the Granite City Army Depot for 10 years and for Clean Towel Company and Singer Sewing Machine, all in Granite City. He was very active and helpful with the Granite City Senior Citizens and enjoyed his days of volunteering with Hospice. He enjoyed reading, sewing, putting puzzles together, building things and time spent with his grandchildren. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by a son and daughter, Timothy and Maria Passig of Bunker Hill; six grandchildren, JohnnyKay, Jennifer, Heather, Andrea, Caty and Doug; eight great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Deb Passig and Shary Passig; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Ricky Passig and John Passig.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, with the Rev. Charles West officiating. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery on Nameoki Road in Granite City.
