William “Bill” A. Johnson, 78, of Godfrey, passed away at 7:05 a.m. Sunday, April 5, 2015, at his residence with his family by his side.
Bill was born in St. Louis on July 28, 1936, son of the late Elmus V. and Leta A. (Ross) Johnson.
He married Virginia L. (Chesnut) on Feb. 24, 1956, in Alton.
Bill was an iron worker with Local No. 396 out of St. Louis. In 1983, he and his wife opened a rigging business named Riggers & Erectors Inc. out of St. Louis, being in business for 17 years. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey, the Elks Lodge No. 2316 in Florissant, Mo., and Alton Eagles FOE 254. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends at the lake property.
He is survived by his wife; four daughters and their spouses, Donna Holley of Canton, N.C., Stasia and John Meierotto of Brighton, Micah and Tom Barnes of Godfrey and Julia and Jay Ringering of Litchfield; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren with one on the way and one sister and her spouse, June and Edward Carter of Akron, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.
Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2015, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey, with Father Steve Pohlman officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.
