William “Bill” Jewell, 73, of Granite City, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2014 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO.
He was born on January 18, 1940 in Terre Haute, IN, a son to the late Wayne and Imogene (Houch) Jewell.
Bill was a United States Navy Veteran who proudly served his country.
On November 25, 1961, Bill married Mary Lou Smiddy, the love of his life, in Terre Haute, IN.
Bill had worked at Chemetco Metals in Alton as a foreman and retired from in 2004 from Cee Kay Supply as a foreman in Alton. He could fix, repair, build or tear apart anything and then put in back together just like new. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends whom he adored. Bill will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Lou Jewell of Granite City; three dear daughters, Debbie Cooper, Daytona Beach, FL, Darcy Lynn Sunderland of Denver, CO and Dana (Rob) Aranin of Granite City; eight grandchildren, Matthew Croft, Jessica Sunderland, Jennifer Sunderland, Timothy Sunderland, Garret Guarino, Tyler W. Jewell, Max Aronin and Jack Aronin; two great-grandchildren; and many dear friends.
Services were through Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City.
