William L.U. “Bill” Patton Jr.
William L.U. “Bill” Patton Jr., 73, of Granite City, died at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
He was born Jan. 28, 1941, in Granite City, a son of the late William and Janie E. (Carson) Patton Sr. He married Julie Ann (Buck) Patton on July 13, 1963, in Peoria and she survives. He retired in 2003 from Regions Bank after more than 35 years of dedicated service in banking. He was a board member of the Phoenix Crisis Center, had served as a Past President of the Granite City Rotary and Chamber of Commerce and was a Paul Harris Award recipient through Rotary. He was a dedicated and faithful member of the Nameoki United Methodist Church in Granite City. He enjoyed his days of belonging to the Delta Upsilon Fraternity at the University of Illinois College and had served in the United States Navy. He was a Corvette enthusiast and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife of 51 years, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Denise Patton of Bloomington and Eric and Martha Patton of Kansas City, Kansas; one daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Tom Irish of Davenport, Iowa; six grandchildren, Mary Kate, Sara, Jack, Andrew, Colleen and Graham; one sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Don Townzen of Spring, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Joanne Patton of Granite City; other extended family and many friends.
In celebration of his life, a memorial visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of memorial service at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, with the Rev. Mike Rayson officiating. Memorials may be made to Nameoki United Methodist Church or to a charity of one’s choice and may be accepted at the funeral home, www.irwinchapel.com.
