Shirley J. (Farmer) Cooper, 66, of Bethalto, passed away at 1:48 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at her residence with her family by her side, while under the care of Heartland Hospice.
She was born April 21, 1948, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., the daughter of Walter L. and Virginia D. (Doublin) Walker.
She married Dawson Cooper and they were happily together for 33 years. He survives.
Shirley was in dietary services at Alton Mental Health Center for 24 years. She enjoyed family vacations to Mexico and Jamaica, cooking and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children and their spouses, Jamie L. and Denise Sparks of Alton, Misty and Art Saviers of Bethalto, Mindy Cooper of Bethalto and Dawson and Stephanie Cooper of Oxford, Miss.; 11 grandchildren, Brian, Corey, Blake, Kylie, Domonique, Raquel, Quinn, McKinzie, Cassie, Jessica and Ciara; her siblings, Linda Yarborough of East Alton, Don and Ella Walker of Wood River and Lora Dean Brines of St. Peters, Mo.; several nieces and nephews and her grandpups, Milo and Jack.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, David and Stevie Walker.
Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014, at the funeral home with Pastor Timothy Keller officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
