CARLINVILLE — The 48 top boys and girls’ basketball seniors from South Central Illinois will be playing in the 12th Annual Carlinville Rotary Club All-Star Basketball Classic on Sunday, March 23, at Carlinville High School.
A total of 20 high schools will be represented in the event, which includes 24 girls and 24 boys. The All-Star Classic is sponsored by Country Financial representatives in Macoupin, Montgomery, Greene and Jersey counties along with The Cubby Hole in Carlinville.
Players on the girls’ West squad are Bailey Schmidt and Ashley Starr of Carlinville; Anna Whitaker of Roxana; Liz Krummelbein, Shannon Stumpf and Emily Doersam of Bunker Hill; Tyler Ross, Kayli Morris, Molly Gray and Ellen Gray of Gillespie; Randi Hopkins of Southwestern; and Brittney Williams of Waverly-Franklin-New Berlin. Kevin Gray of Gillespie will coach the West All-Stars.
Players on the girls’ East team are Kennah White, Katie Deluka and Gretchen Hobbie of Hillsboro; Baylee McLaughlin and Taylor Jenkins of Auburn; Devyn Gaskin and Angelique McClain of Nokomis; Maria Reinhard, Kassidy Alderman and Sheena Gatson of Greenville; Breanna Schoonover of Pana; and Hannah McEnery of Staunton.
Greenville's Paul Thies will coach the East All-Stars.
Representing the boys’ West team are Barry Stewart of Carlinville; Kyle Steckel and Kyle Obertino of Jersey Community; Kameron McLaughlin of Bunker Hill; Tanner Pate of East Alton-Wood River; Ethan Gallaher of Southwestern; Charlie Sheets and Matt Hartnett of Roxana; Jordan McMillen and Patrick McWhorter of Greenfield/Northwestern; Ethan Frye of Carrollton; and Reed Rusten of North Greene. Joe Pembrook of Greenfield/Northwestern will coach the West All-Stars.
The East boys’ squad includes Tate Snyder and Nick Brockmeyer of Lincolnwood; Tyler Herpstreith and Austin Chausse of Nokomis; Cale Hennemann and Garrett Galloway of Pawnee; Taten Musso and John Grayson of North Mac; Austin Chamberlain, Alex Hull and Austin Bryant of Litchfield; and Noah Calvert of Hillsboro. Lincolnwood's Matt Millburg will coach the East All-Stars.
Each game will be played in four 10-minute quarters. The Country Financial 3-Point Shootout for the girls will begin at 4 p.m., followed by the girls’ All-Star game at 4:30 p.m.
The Country Financial 3-Point Shootout for the boys will be held between games, starting at 6:15 p.m., with the boys’ All-Star game to follow at 6:45 p.m. The Cubby Hole Slam Dunk contest will be held at halftime of the boys’ game.
At halftime of each game, the Carlinville Rotary Club will present the Coach of the Year awards. An MVP award will also be given following each game.
In the girls’ game last year, MVP Charley Lett of Pana notched 22 points to lift the East past the West 84-58. The East holds a 7-3 advantage in the Girls Classic.
Meanwhile, in last year's boys' game, Erick Sosa of Southwestern scored 18 points to lead the West to an 88-76 victory and was named the Classic’s Most Valuable Player. The West leads the series 8-3.
All proceeds from the day’s events will go to the Carlinville Rotary Club and help with community projects throughout the year. Admission to the Mid-Illinois All-Star Basketball Classic is $5 with children 10 and under admitted free.
