The Illinois High School Football Coaches Association released its All-State teams on Monday and two River Bend players grabbed honorable mentions on the field.
Alton's Ricco Gipson garnered honorable mention status in Class 7A, while Roxana senior Logan Reardon was an honorable mention in Class 4A.
After winning the Alton Knights of Columbus Quarterback Club Defensive Lineman of the Year and making first-team All-Southwestern Conference, Gipson can add the All-State honor to his already impressive resume. The middle linebacker led the Redbirds in tackles with a total of 105, 83 solos.
Reardon was recognized an All-State honorable mention after helping lead the Shells to the playoffs for the first time since 2003 from his fullback position. Reardon set a couple of single-season records for the 8-3 Shells, too. He is now the single-season rushing leader for Roxana with 1,761 yards and the single-season points leader with 167.
Alton senior offensive lineman Zach Edwards was named Academic All-State by the IHSFCA, too. In order to qualify for this distinction players must have been named first team All-Conference and carry a 3.50 GPA or better. Edwards has been a three-year starter for the Birds and was the only player to become a four-year letter winner in 2014.
The remainder of the Academic All-State team hasn't been released yet. More than 350 players were bestowed this distinction in Illinois in 2013.
