Coach Bob Rickman talks with the Lady Redbirds on the sidelines of West Gymnasium in Alton Jan. 13.
The Alton High School girls' basketball team will play its final regular season home game of the year Feb. 13 against Edwardsville.
The junior varsity begins at 6:00 and the varsity game will follow at 7:30. Besides being their final regular season home game, the Redbirds will raise awareness and money for the fight against Alzheimer's.
Pat Summitt, the former head coach of the University of Tennessee, was diagnosed with the onset stages of Alzheimer’s after her 2010-2011 season. While head coach at Tennessee, she transformed women's college basketball, winning 1,098 games in her career and eight national championships. Now she is working with the Pat Summitt Foundation to help fight the disease.
This year’s “We Back Pat" night will raise awareness and money for the fight against the disease. The Bank of Edwardsville will sponsor the event and is providing "We Back Pat" shirts for varsity players to wear that night, with shirts available for purchase the night of the game.
