The Alton Post 126 Junior American Legion baseball team won the Fifth Division Tournament over the weekend at Metropolis and has advanced to the state tournament, which starts on Thursday at Clinton High School and at Forsyth Park Diamond.

Alton finished 3-0 in the nine-team, Fifth Division tournament at Metropolis to advance to the state tournament, which will be held at Forsyth Park Diamond at Forsyth and at Clinton High School. Post 126 will play its first game at 11 a.m. Thursday against an opponent that has yet to be determined.
Alton started Fifth Division tournament play on Friday with a 9-3 win over West Frankfort. It beat Steeleville 5-2 on Saturday to clinch a state tournament berth.
On Sunday, Alton cruised to an 11-3 win over Salem to win the tournament. With its second-place finish, Salem also qualified for the state tournament.
Alton (23-14) qualified for the Fifth Division tournament by winning the District 22 championship last week. The squad finished with a 4-1 record in the district tournament, including a 4-1 win over Valmeyer in the title game.
The players on the Alton 126 roster are Cole Akal, Cadan Akal, Rylee Bernot, Ryan Best, Griffen Bionco, Gage Booten, Austin Frank, Parker Isakson, Cullen McBride, Ben Mossman, Simon Nguyen, Adam Stilts, Dakota Stumpf, Cree Stumpf and Zaide Wilson. Dennis Sharp is the manager.
