Two down, three to go.
The Alton Post 126 Junior American Legion baseball team is three wins away from a state championship.
Alton defeated Valmeyer 6-5 on Friday at Forsyth Poark to improve to 2-0 in the eight-team Junior American Legion State Tournament. Post 126 will play Moline at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Forsyth Park. The winner of that game plays again at 6:30 p.m. Saturday against either Valmeyer or Paris and that contest also will be played at Forsyth.
The championship game is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday.
Alton beat Valmeyer for the third time in the postseason. Two weeks ago, Alton beat Valmeyer in the District 22 championship game at Valmeyer to advance to the Fifth Division Tournament.
Moline also improved to 2-0 at state by edging Danville 2-1 on Friday to earn a Saturday matchup with Alton. As of Friday, eight games were played at the state tournament and five of them were by one run.
Alton advanced to state by winning the Fifth Division championship last week at Metropolis. Post 126 began state tournament play on Thursday by beating Charleston 3-1.
