Jesse Macias, the head coach for the Alton High School boys’ tennis team over the past 12 years, has announced his retirement from the boys’ program effective at the end of the 2015 season.
The all-time winningest coach in school history, Macias has a career record of 146-78 and a Southwestern Conference record of 47-37. The Redbirds have qualified players for the state tournament in all 12 of Macias’ years, sending 33 players to the state finals from 2003-2015.
The Redbirds are coming off back-to-back runner-up finishes in sectionals and return state qualifiers Kain Henson, Jackson Scheiter and Carl Stradal. The Redbirds have never had a losing record in Macias tenure and have enjoyed five consecutive third-place finishes in the Southwestern Conference. The Redbirds open the season Saturday in the Knights Duals Invitational.
