Three local players have been selected to the first-team, all-Mississippi Valley Conference boys’ basketball squad
Jersey High’s Kyle Steckel and Jake Varble are first-team choices, as well as Civic Memorial’s Jakob Lowrance.
Steckel, a senior guard, averaged a team-best 14.3 points per game for the 18-12 Panthers. They finished 5-5 in the Valley. Varble, a junior forward, averaged 11.8 points and 9.2 rebounds. CM’s Lowrance, a 6-7 junior center, averaged 15.6 ppg and 7.2 rebounds for the 18-11 Eagles. They went 6-4 in the MVC.
Shane Lenhardt of MVC champion Waterloo, Joe Duncan of Highland and Jason Barbour of Triad also were selected to the six-player, first team.
Jansen Helmkamp, a senior from CM and Luke Shively, a junior from Jersey, were second-team choices. Zach Schaab of Waterloo, Tim Parks and Alex Oltmann of Mascoutah, plus Noah Moss of Triad, also were picked to the second team.
Ben Walker, a senior from CM, was an honorable mention selection, as was Kyle Obertino, a senior from Jersey. Waterloo’s Daniel Gardner, Highland’s Aaron Elledge, Triad’s Matt Mersinger and Mascoutah’s Andy Norrenberns also received honorable mention status.
The six conference coaches conducted the voting.
