Miranda Cunningham | Soccer
Cunningham, one of four seniors for the Roxana Shells this season, has head coach Lori Yates taking notice.
The senior defensive back has helped lead the Shells to a 5-2 record through Wednesday and a 1-1 mark in the South Central Conference.
On April 4 Roxana had its biggest highlight to this point, going 3-0 in the East Alton-Wood River Tournament to garner the title.
After the 2-0 win over Mascoutah to earn the title, Yates called Cunningham a “rock” on defense.
Cunningham only had one goal through Wednesday, but it was the game-winner in a 1-0 victory over Metro East Lutheran to start the season. She also had one assist. Cunningham’s true asset comes in her physical defense and it came through for the Shells in the EA-WR Tournament, where they outscored opponents 19-1.
Meghan Schorman | Softball
Just a freshman for the Marquette Catholic Explorers, Meghan Schorman is quickly making a name for herself in the pitching circle and at the plate.
As Marquette went 3-1 over the week of March 30 through April 4, Schorman was 2-1 in the circle and had a double, five RBIs and scored five runs.
Her wins came in a 13-3 six-inning victory at CM on April 2 and a 4-2 win at Calhoun on April 4. She struck out 31 batters in the three games. The loss came via a 5-0 setback to Columbia at home on April 1.
Schorman didn’t pitch in Marquette’s 15-0 shellacking of Belleville Althoff on March 31.
Entering Monday, Schorman was hitting .355 with three homers and 10 RBIs at the dish. In the circle, she was 4-3 with a 2.06 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 51 innings pitched.
