Martz, a senior right-hander, enjoyed a spectacular season in leading the Shells to a Class 2A regional championship.He was 6-2 with a 1.22 ERA, including a no-hitter. Martz also batted .484 with one home run and 36 RBIs.
And Martz, who is playing his summer baseball for the Litchfield Mules, was at it again last Thursday in the Illinois-Missouri Prep Baseball Showcase at Busch Stadium.Playing third base, he went 1-for-2 with a run-scoring single in the sixth as Illinois won, 13-3, for its second straight victory in the event. Teammate Austin Werner of Edwardsville was 3-for-3 with a triple, stolen base and three RBIs. Werner was named the Showcase MVP.

Hogan, the winner of last summer’s Godfrey Open at the Rolling Hills Course, followed it up with the championship of the 61st annual Gold Medal Tournament
He shot a 2-under par 138 to secure Championship Flight honors in the two-day tournament at the Rock Spring Park Course in Alton. The tourney, which has been around since 1954, serves as the city championship. It was Hogan’s first Gold Medal title.
A Roxana High graduate, Hogan carded a 70 the opening day of the tournament and found himself four strokes off the pace. However, he fired a 68 on the 18 holes to finish first and shaded defending champion Kevin Pinkas of Edwardsville. He was runner-up with a 141 total.
