Tommy Flack and Dee Ketchum
Baseball: Tommy Flack of Civic Memorial High School
Flack, a recent graduate of Civic Memorial High School, has had several strong outings for the Metro East Senior Legion baseball team.
The right-hander, bound for William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., is a big reason why the first-year Bears have enjoyed a successful start.
He picked up District 22 victories against Fairview Heights and Collinsville and then pitched the Bears past Glendale, Mo., in the Washington, Mo. Tournament. Flack beat Fairview Heights 2-1 and threw a one-hitter in a 1-0 victory against Collinsville. During the spring season, Flack logged a 4-2 record and 4.55 ERA for the Eagles, who went 20-11 and reached the finals of the Highland Class 3A Regional.
Golf: Dee Ketchum
The old pro was at his best – again – in the Seniors Division of the 10th annual Godfrey Golf Open at the Rolling Hills Course the past weekend.
Ketchum, 67, shot a 5-under-par 137 to easily win another Seniors championship. He was the defending champion and has won the tourney title multiple times.
This time, he carded a 29 on the back nine Saturday, the first day of the weekend tournament. He recorded seven birdies and one bogey in tying the course record for the final nine of the 18-hole course.
Ketchum is a four-time champion of the Gold Medal tournament at Rock Spring Park. He won it in 1995, 1999, 2003 and 2006.
