Baseball: Austin Siener of Marquette Catholic
Siener continued his scorching hitting and it coincided with Marquette Catholic extending its winning ways to eight games.
The shortstop has served as a key player for the Explorers at the plate and in the field. The shortstop went 4-for-4 in a recent win over Metro East Lutheran.
“He has really been hitting the ball well over the past week,” Explorers’ coach Tim Fahnestock said.
Siener strung together 10 hits in 16 at-bats during one stretch. That included four doubles, three stolen bases, seven runs scored and eight RBIs. He lifted his average to .381.
The Explorers have a nonconference date scheduled Thursday at East Alton-Wood River. They defeated EA-WR, 16-14, last Friday at Norris Dorsey Field. The Oilers will join the Explorers next season in Prairie State competition.
Softball: Lindsey Snyder of Southwestern
The senior shortstop, bound for Kankakee Community College, is a big reason why the Piasa Birds are in the thick of things in the South Central Conference and a potent offensive squad.
At last glance, she was hitting .462, thanks to 24 hits in 52 at-bats. Snyder has hit five home runs and driven in 14 runs. She hit for a cycle recently against Roxana.
Snyder has numerous multi-hit games and clouted home runs in victories over Civic Memorial, East Alton-Wood River and Roxana.
“Lindsey has been doing a tremendous job this season,” Southwestern coach Peg Mitchell said. “She continues to perform at a high-level game in and game out. And her competitive nature and desire to succeed has helped her develop into one of the area’s top players.”
