Addison Kaufmann | Boys’ Swimming
On Nov. 12 at Alton High School, Kaufmann made it official where he will be swimming in college, inking a letter of intent to go to Cleveland State University.
Kaufmann has swam for the Redbirds for three years, while swimming for the Tri-City YMCA Tidalwaves for the past 10 years.
Kaufmann advanced to the IHSA state meet in the 200-yard individually medley and the 100-yard breaststroke as a junior. He was 16th in the 200 medley and was 31st in the 100 breaststroke.
As a sophomore for the Birds, Kaufmann was part of the sectional champion 200-yard freestyle relay. The relay team finished 31st at state.
Kaufmann has also advanced to the YMCA National Championships in each of the past four seasons for the Tidalwaves.
He plans to major in physical therapy at Cleveland State.
Natalie Long | Girls’ Golf
Long signed a scholarship to play golf at Lindenwood University on Nov. 16 at Alton High School.
Long was a solid contributor to a monster season for the Lady Redbirds on the links. Alton advanced to the Class AA state tournament, after coming away as champions at the Champaign Centennial Sectional. AHS finished in 10th place with a two-day score of 699 at state.
Long was the leading scorer for the Birds at state at Decatur’s Hickory Point Golf Course. She shot a two-day total of 164 to finish in a tie for 35th.
She was the medalist of the Southwestern Conference Tournament at Belk Park Golf Course in Wood River on Sept. 30, firing a career low 1-over par 73. It helped the Redbirds secure a share of the SWC title after they shot 305 as a team.
The Lindenwood Lions made it to the NCAA Division II Super Regional for the first time in the spring of 2014, finishing ninth.
