Baseball | Nick Paulda
Paulda just completed his final season playing American Legion baseball for the Metro East Bears. A 2014 Alton High School graduate, Paulda now plays in college for Lindenwood University as a catcher.
Paulda was nails for the Bears, catching every single inning of the 2015 playoffs, which saw them reach the finals of the Great Lakes Regional hosted at Lloyd Hopkins Field inside Gordon Moore Park in Alton.
He did an outstanding job of handling the Metro East pitching staff and while his hitting trended down as the season progressed, his two-run double in the ninth inning on Aug. 7 against Plover, Wis., was key. Paulda’s two-run hit tied the game 3-3 and set the stage for Drake Hampton’s walk-off RBI single in the win over Plover.
Baseball | Blake Marks
Marks will be a senior at East Alton-Wood River this year and looks to be a standout athlete for the Oilers.
It comes after a fantastic summer with the Twin City baseball program sponsored by South Roxana American Legion Post 1167. Marks played a solid third base and did some pitching for Twin City during an impressive 27-3 campaign.
Marks was the team’s leading hitter with a .435 batting average. He also had a team-leading 10 doubles and 30 RBIs to accompany three triples, nine stolen bases, 18 runs scored and six walks. As for his defense, he only committed three errors at the hot corner.
On the mound Marks went 2-1 for Post 1167, too.
