Nick Paulda | Baseball
Paulda, a catcher for the Metro East Bears this summer and former Alton High School standout, is tearing it up at the plate.
Paulda is a key contributor to the Bears’ success this season. Entering this week the American Legion Post 126/199 senior baseball program was 16-5 on the season.
Paulda is second on the squad in batting average at .421, first on the team in home runs with two, second on the team in RBIs with 18, third in runs with 16 and tied for third in doubles with three. He’s also supplied three stolen bases.
It all comes while playing stellar defense behind the plate and doing an outstanding job of handling the pitching staff.
Paulda will be a redshirt freshman at Division II Lindenwood University in St. Charles during the spring.
Jacob St. Peters | Baseball
St. Peters has been the rock for the Metro East Bears on the mound this summer.
The 6-foot-3 lanky righthanded pitcher is the ace of the staff thus far, as the Bears are 16-5 on the season. St. Peters leads Metro East in wins, owning a 6-0 record entering this week, innings pitched at 29 and strikeouts with 24. He also boasts a minuscule 1.21 ERA and has only issued seven walks.
St. Peters will be a senior for the Alton Redbirds in the spring and is coming off a junior campaign where he was the workhouse out of the bullpen for the program-record 30-7 Birds.
He was 3-0 in the spring with a 3.21 ERA. St. Peters logged 25 strikeouts to just eight walks in 28.1 innings pitched. He was tied for first on the Redbirds in appearances, too, with 18.
