Julian Childers | Tennis
Childers successfully defended his 2014 Bud Simpson Open championship on June 28.
A redshirt junior at the University of Illinois, Childers defeated fellow Illini netter Brian Page 6-3, 6-2 in the men’s open singles finals to win the 33rd Annual Bud Simpson Open. Childers also paired up with Page to win the men’s open doubles flight, besting Michael Doyle and Steve Moehn 6-4, 6-2 in the title tilt there.
The two championship victories also secured wild card bids for Childers in singles and doubles in the Godfrey Pro Classic on July 18-26 at Lewis and Clark Community College’s Andy Simpson Tennis Complex. The Godfrey Pro Classic is a $15,000 USTA Men’s Pro Circuit Futures event.
This year marked Childers’ second doubles title at the Simpson Open, too. He teamed with Tim Kopinski i 2013 to win in doubles as well.
Logan Reardon | Baseball
Reardon, a 2015 Roxana High School graduate, was a key cog for Twin City baseball on June 27 and 28 in the RBI Bonanza Tournament in St. Peters.
Twin City went 3-0 in the rain-shortened tournament and Reardon, a Lincoln Land Community College recruit, contributed on the mound and at the plate.
In three contests, Reardon went 5 for 6 at the plate with a pair of doubles and triples and a whopping five RBIs. On the mound he threw a one-hit, five-inning shutout against the Midwest Surge, striking out eight batters in an 8-0 win. The performance in the tournament in St. Peters followed up Reardon locking down a save in an impressive 5-2 win over Highland American Legion Post 439 on June 23 at Glik Park in Highland.
