Bryan Hudson | Baseball
Hudson, a 6-foot-8 senior lefty pitcher for the Alton Redbirds, capped his phenomenal career on Tuesday by being drafted in the third round of the 2015 MLB Amateur Draft by the Chicago Cubs with the 82nd overall selection.
Hudson was listed as the 71st overall prospect for the draft on www.mlb.com and the eighth best left-handed pitching prospect. He was also No. 100 on the prospect list for Baseball America.
The big southpaw set a plethora of records for the Redbirds during his tenure there, including all-time innings pitched (198.0), career wins (25), career strikeouts (324), career ERA (1.32), as well as single-season strikeouts (152) and tied the single-season wins mark (10). He was 10-2 with a 0.46 ERA and 152 strikeouts in 2015 for AHS.
Katelyn Presley | Softball
Presley, a junior third baseman for the Alton Redbirds, enjoyed a great regional tournament individually.
In the semifinals of the Class 4A Alton Regional, the Birds secured a dramatic 7-6 victory over the Quincy Blue Devils on May 27. While Presley was 0-2 in the game, she did have an RBI, a walk, two stolen bases and two runs, including the game winner. Presley raced home on a wild pitch to play the winning run in walkoff fashion.
Unfortunately the Redbirds lost 11-1 in the regional title tilt to Edwardsville on June 1, but Presley logged one of the team’s two hits and their only run by blasting a third-inning solo homer.
She finished the year hitting .374 with one homer, 23 RBIs and team-best 45 runs scored.
