Aragona got his start in swimming with the Tri-City Tidalwaves and the Summers-Port Sharks when he was five years old. He’s come a long way since then. On July 15 Aragona, now a junior-to-be for the University of Missouri swim team, achieved his personal best in the pool, qualifying for the 50-meter freestyle in next year’s Olympic Trials. Aragona’s feat came at the 2015 Speedo Central Section Region VIII meet at the Mizzou Aquatic Center in Columbia, Mo., his home pool swimming for the Tigers.
Swimming in the 100-meter freestyle, Aragona felt good and decided to declare that his first 50 meters would count toward the Olympic Trials qualifier. He was clocked at 23.06 seconds. The qualifying time was 23.29 seconds.
The Olympic Trials are scheduled for June 26-July 3, 2016 in Omaha, Neb.
