The Alton Post 126 Junior American Legion team has chance to win a state championship on Sunday.
All it has to do is beat Moline twice.
Alton and Moline will square off in the championship game of the Junior American Legion State Tournament at 11 a.m. Sunday at Forsyth Park. If Alton wins, the two teams will square off again in a winner-take-all final at 1:30 p.m.
Moline is undefeated in the state tournament at 4-0. A victory over Alton will clinch Moline a state title.
Alton is 3-1 in state tournament play. After beating Charleston and Valmeyer in its first two games, Alton split two games on Saturday, losing to Moline 13-1 and beating Danville 5-2.
The win over Danville clinched Alton a berth to the championship game against Moline.
Moline advanced to the title game by beating Valmeyer 9-8 in nine innings on Saturday. Valmeyer, which finished second to Alton in the District 22 tournament and third in the Fifth Division tournament, is eliminated from the state tournament.
Against Danville, Rylee Bernot was the winning pitcher and Ben Mossman smacked a bases-loaded double.
Alton will take a 26-15 record into Sunday's game against Moline. Alton had won six straight games before its loss to Moline on Saturday.
Alton advanced to state by winning the Fifth Division tournament last week.
