The Alton Post 126 Junior American Legion team is four wins away from a state championship.
Alton advanced to the winner's bracket game of the American Junior Legion State Tournament against Valmeyer at 4 p.m. Friday at Forsyth Park after beating Charleston 3-1 in a first-round game on Thursday at Clinton High School.
All games in the eight-team state tournament are played at Forsyth Park and at Clinton High School.
Alton improved to 24-14 with the win over Charleston. Post 126 will be playing Valmeyer for the fourth time in the postseason.
Two weeks ago, Alton played Valmeyer three times in the District 22 Tournament at Valmeyer, including a 4-1 win in the championship game that qualified the team to the Fifth Division Tournament.
Alton advanced to state by winning the Fifth Division championship on Sunday at Metropolis.
Valmeyer, which qualified for state by finishing third in the Fifth Division tournament, earned a trip to the winner's bracket game by beating host Decatur Gold 3-2 on Thursday.
Also on Thursday, Danville beat Salem 7-6 on and Moline knocked off Paris 4-3. Danville and Moline will play in the other winner's bracket semifinal at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Charleston will play Decatur Gold at 11 a.m. Friday in an elimination game. Salem, which lost to Alton in the Fifth Division championship, will play Paris at 1:30 p.m. Friday in another elimination game.
If Alton beats Valmeyer, it will play at 1:30 p.m. Saturday against the winner between Danville and Moline.
The championship game is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday at Forsyth Park.
