Jacob Kanallakan of the Metro East Bears collected a RBI single in the top of the seventh off of cousin Drake Kanallakan of Jerseyville Post 492 to snap a scoreless tie and lead Edwardsville Post 199/Alton Post 126 to a 3-0 victory at Ken Schell Field in Jerseyville on Thursday. Metro East improve to 2-0 on the young season with the win.
Chance Foss delivered the first hit for the Bears in the sixth inning, after the team was no-hit to that point by Post 492. Metro East ended up tacking on four hits in the seventh for the win.
Devin Colley worked the final 2.1 innings of relief to garner the victory on the mound.
Foss ended up with two hits, including a double and a RBI, to pace Post 199/126. Drake Hampton and Colley had the other hits for Metro East. Cole Cimarolli picked up a RBI off of a bases-loaded walk.
The Bears return to action in the Greenville Wood Bat Classic on Friday and Saturday. They opened at Greenville College at 10 a.m. this morning against Easton and battle Decatur at 12:15 p.m. in their second game.
How the teams finish today determines how they will be seeded for the Saturday portion of the tournament. Teams will be seeded 1-7 after today's portion of the tourney.
