Recent East Alton-Wood River High grad Blake Marks received a pretty prodigious honor on Friday. Marks was named to the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 2A first-team all-state squad as a pitcher and a third baseman.
Marks enjoyed an outstanding season with the Oilers. He recorded a 7-2 mark on the hill with a miniscule 0.57 ERA. He fanned 62 and walked just 18 in 49.1 innings pitched.
With the bat, Marks compiled a .515 batting average to accompany 5 home runs, 41 RBIs and 19 stolen bases. He also had 10 doubles and 7 triples on the season. He walked 23 times, while only striking out 5 times also.
Altogether, Marks led EA-WR 11 offensive categories and 10 pitching categories.
The Oilers finished 14-19 on the season, but earned a share of the Prairie State Conference championship with Nokomis.
Marks will play baseball at Lewis and Clark Community College next season.
