Roxana senior shortstop Chance Foss recently announced he will continue his baseball career at Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville.
Foss has been a 3-sport standout for the Shells, playing quarterback for the football team, point guard for the boys' basketball squad and shortstop for the baseball program.
Last season Foss led Roxana with a .364 batting average. He also belted one homer and drove in 16 runs, while scoring a team-high 24 runs. His 16 stolen bases were also a team-best.
The Shells were 12-15 in 2015 and bowed out in a first-round regional contest, but finished third in the rugged South Central Conference.
Roxana opens the 2016 season at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at crosstown rival East Alton-Wood River.
After completing his senior campaign, Foss will join a SWIC program that went 30-18 and reached 26th in the national rankings. He will play for head coach Neil Fiala, who is entering his 23rd season as the head coach at SWIC. He was 817-445 with the Blue Storm entering the '16 season.
