ALTON — It's basketball awards time again for the Alton Exchange Club.
The local organization will hold its 71st annual Player of the Year banquet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, at the Atrium Hotel (formerly the Holiday Inn) in Alton.
Male and female prep basketball players from Alton, Marquette Catholic, Civic Memorial, East Alton-Wood River and Roxana will be eligible for awards. The 2015 Players of the Year were Darrius Edwards of Alton and Allie Troeckler of CM. The Exchange Club has honored local high school players since 1946 and girls were included starting in 1994.
Tickets are $20 for parents and fans, and can be purchased at the door. Former award winners are urged to attend.
Katie Broadway, an assistant women's coach at McKendree University in Lebanon, will serve as the featured speaker. Broadway is the only three-time winner (2006-08) of the Player of the Year honor. Broadway is the all-time leading scorer at CM with 2,049 points.
Other awards to be handed out that night include: 110 percent, free throw shooting, team sportsmanship and individual MVP for each of the five schools.
